Over 50% of the emissions budget for shipping is expected to be spent in this decade, long before zero fuels become available at any meaningful scale. Thus, today’s fleet will be releasing the vast majority of those emissions – so, unless we reduce GHG emissions from ships on the water now, there is no hope of meeting a 1.5°C target.
